My address is Booneville but I live in the back country known as Hopewell. I have four children, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Born into a family of five children, the death of our mother caused us to be raised in foster homes. My siblings were adopted but I went from foster home to foster home from the age of 5. Being on my own from age 13, my education was considerably delayed. In my later years I was able to earn degrees in Law, Business, and Theology but never had the opportunity to study my one love, art. I also attended Methodist Pastors Licensing School.
After spending years farming and bookkeeping I opened a landscaping business in Baldwyn, MS. Many of my landscape designs can be seen in Tupelo, MS. I am proud of the Walgreen Drug store, Krogers, Surgery Associates, and many other doctors offices and homes in the Tupelo area. I retired in 2001 and feel like the landscaping and green house experience awakened my desire for art. Having tried oil and pastel back in the 60's I knew that the smell of the oil paint bothered me. Martha DeVaughn introduced me to Acrylic paints and I was hooked. Having no formal training I purchased art books and in September 2009 I began painting. Since starting, my good friend Jim Tidwell, has mentored me along the way and I credit him with a lot of what I have learned. Since I started I have taken three classes under Steven Donaldson at NEMCC.
I paint anything that I think is beautiful in this world. There is so much beauty in this world I want to put it on canvas so others can see it through my eyes.
